Shelly Lesikar deZevallos
Advisor to the Board of Directors

Shelly deZevallos is the Southwest Regional Representative for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

She has been flying for over 20 years and is passionate about general aviation. She practically grew up sweeping hangars at her family’s privately owned, public use airport, West Houston Airport, and has since earned her private, instrument, commercial ratings as well as her multi-engine and glider certificates. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Texas, where during her last year spent as a staff member working in the Texas State Legislature – thus instilling a new passion in addition to flying – public policy.

After teaching English in China and then working for her family’s airport for several years in several capacities, Shelly started selling the single engine piston line for Cessna Aircraft Company.  In 2004, she earned her MBA from Texas A&M University and has since started to pursue her Doctorate from Oklahoma State University in Aviation and Space Science.

Her past twenty year experiences in marketing and sales, advocacy, aviation and non-profit work has lead her to a successful career at AOPA, which gives her the opportunity to voice her passion about general aviation in a public policy role.

In addition to her love of flying, Shelly has spent time volunteering and organizing several non-profit projects, including advisory board member for the Flower Foundation and Co-Chair of “Pink Night Out” benefitting the Pink Ribbons Project.

Shelly and her husband Chris (who is also a pilot) currently live in a hangar with their dog, who occasionally flies with them, too.
